Photographer Elliott Erwitt has been taking pictures for more than half a century. Elliott Erwitt was born 26 July 1928 in Paris, France. He is an advertising and documentary photographer known for his black and white candid shots of ironic and absurd situations within everyday settings – the master of the “indecisive moment”.
Born in Paris of Jewish-Russian immigrant parents, Erwitt served as a photographer’s assistant in the 1950’s in the United States Army while stationed in France and Germany. Erwitt was influenced by his meeting the famous photographers Edward Steichen, Robert Capa and Roy Stryker. Stryker, the former Director of the Farm Security Administration’s photography department, hired Erwitt to work on a photography project for the Standard Oil Company. Erwitt then began a freelance photographer career and produced work for Collier’s, Look, Life and Holiday magazines. Joining the Magnum Photos agency in 1953 allowed Erwitt to shoot photography projects around the world. Become a full Member of Magnum Photos at 1954. (more…)
Toby Burrows is an Australian photographer who has already won numerous awards for achievement and the quality of his work. Among his recent projects, a series on the Thai boxers and several series of portraits to be discovered on its website. In 2006, Toby has been mandated by the National Geographic accompanied by an English journalist for the shooting of Australian nature. Beautiful portraits of Angelina Jolie by George Holz, American photographer whose work spans 30 years and includes nudes, fashion, and celebrity portraits. He is a native of Oak Ridge Tennessee, and graduated from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California in 1980. While at Art Center, Holz assisted for Helmut Newton, who urged him to move to Milan to pursue his vision.
In Milan, Holz developed his own unique style. Photo Italiana called him “a new up-and-comer with a unique independent style.” In Europe, Holz’s work appeared in Italian Vogue, Lei, Linea Italiana, Madame Figaro and French Elle. After critical acclaim in Europe, he returned to Los Angeles for a short period where he photographed album covers, including a young Madonna for the iconic “Borderline” album. He moved to New York City in the mid 1980’s and opened a studio in the Village.
